Clock Factories like this one belonging to S. Smith and son at Crickelwood, near London, were turned over to making fuses in the First World War, as were such factories in other combatant countries. Subsequently, Smiths became the biggest maker of clocks and jeweled watches in the UK, but no longer make watches.
